Dr. Murali P. Vettath, a pioneer and protagonist of “cutting edge technology” coronary surgeries, is one of the few new generation coronary surgeons who has performed 100% of his coronary surgeries on beating heart without the use of a Heart Lung Machine.

Dr Murali has 26 years of post-MCh experience in Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery, including 18 years as Chief Cardiothoracic Surgeon.
He has performed more than 7,000 open heart surgeries with more than 4,500 of them on beating heart for coronary artery bypass surgery with a mortality of less than 0.5%.
He has only one conversion to the pump in the last 3,500 odd OPCAB (Off Pump Coronary Artery Bypass) surgeries.
He performed the first MICS (minimally invasive cardiac surgery) in Kerala in July 2002. Right anterior mini thoracotomy for closure of ASD and ever since, has been performing MICS for Mitral and aortic valve surgeries as well.
His inventions include Vettath’s Anastomotic Obturator – a proximal anastomotic device and SIMS (Simple Indian made stabilizer) out of which the former is patented in 2004.
He is the first to perform heart transplantation in North Kerala in 2015.
He has operated and demonstrated his technique of OPCAB nationally and internationally.
