Venereology
It is the branch of medical science that deals with the diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases (STD) also known as ‘venereal diseases’. Venereal diseases include bacterial, viral, fungal, and parasitic infections. Some of the major diseases are HIV infection, syphilis, gonorrhea, candidiasis, herpes simplex, human papillomavirus infection, and genital scabies. Other sexually transmitted infections studied in the field include Chancroid, Lymphogranuloma Venereum, Granuloma Inguinale, Hepatitis B and Cytomegalovirus infection.
Leprosy
It is a chronic bacterial disease of the skin and nerves in the hands and feet. And in some cases the lining of the nose. It is not clear how the germ is spread, but household and prolonged closed contact tends to increase contagion. The germs get in the air through the nasal discharge of untreated lepromatous patients. Patients with leprosy should be treated by a skin specialist who has experience with the disease. Treatment is with multiple drugs for six months to two years.
